Hyun Jae hails from Hearthome City, She lives with her parents and her oldest brother.
Her Lopunny Jung Su is her main pokemon, She named him after her other older brother who moved away to join the army, who she never talks to anymore, She took up training him mainly because she missed him, he is sort of a replacement brother in that sense.

Hyun loves Pokemon Contests, she watched them a lot as a kid and would cheer from the sidelines for her favourite coordinators.
She would try to enter Jung in contests, but he refuses to even enter the building, the glitz and glam does his head in, he'd rather be battling against trainers and training with Hyun out in the wild.
So because of his refusals she aquired a pokemon that would enter with her willingly, Lady the Mienfoo, who like both Hyun and Jung, is incredibly proud and proper, but clashes quite a bit with Jung's possessiveness over Hyun, they fight a lot for her attention.

Fearing Hyun was turning her back on him for not entering contests with her, he showed her a flyer for the Helios Conference, in the hopes that they could enter together, and was over the moon when she became quite enthusiastic about it, much to Lady's dismay.

After convincing her parents to let her go, she took her team and headed for Nimbasa City.
Lady sulked the whole time, and Jung was highly amused.}
